Other Guidelines
The Spell It! booklet is available at spellingbee.com.
Contestant order will be determined by random drawing.
Spellers will not be penalized for mistakes in capitalization.
A speller will not be penalized for starting the spelling of a word again. Once he or she has given the final pronunciation of the word, however, his or her spelling of the word will be deemed complete.
When two students advance to the final round, the winning speller must correctly spell the word missed by his or her opponent, as well as an additional word.
Noting the exception above, misspelled words will not be passed on to the next contestant.
Appeals may be made by the speller, parents or any audience member before the completion of a division.
No appeals can be considered once the winner has been announced.
Parents are asked to keep younger children from being disruptive to the proceedings.
Audience members must refrain from influencing spellers in any way.
